Booking & Scheduling

6 Best Booking Plugins for Doctors, Dentists and Clinics (2026)

Booking plugins for medical and dental practices with several practitioners, plus reminders, no-show tactics and HIPAA considerations.

Best booking plugins for clinics and doctors: Multiple practitioners, reminders and fewer no-shows.

Quick answer

For clinics on WordPress, our pick is Quill Booking, our own plugin, for appointment booking with reminders, team scheduling and calendar sync from $39 a year. Amelia and LatePoint are strong for several practitioners, rooms and locations, and DoubleScale adds patient records and a portal. Online booking alone does not make a practice HIPAA compliant.

Outpatient clinics lose about a fifth of appointments to no-shows on average (Dantas et al., 2018), so reminders and easy rescheduling matter as much as the booking page itself. Clinics also need several practitioners, rooms or locations, and careful handling of patient data.

Disclosure: Quill Booking is our plugin, so we put it first. DoubleScale is a sister product from the same team. We list the same facts for every product, including what each one does not do well, so you can make your own call.

What clinics and medical practices need from a booking plugin

  • A booking page per practitioner, or a team page that assigns the first free practitioner.
  • Email and text reminders 24 to 48 hours before, plus a same-day text.
  • Reschedule and cancel links in every reminder.
  • Minimal personal data on the booking form.
  • A missed-appointment policy that applies equally to all patients.

No WordPress booking plugin makes your practice HIPAA compliant on its own. Under HIPAA, any vendor that creates, receives, maintains or transmits protected health information for you is a business associate and needs a Business Associate Agreement (HHS guidance). With a self-hosted plugin, booking data sits on your own server, so your hosting provider, email service and any SMS provider are the vendors to review. Keep diagnoses and visit reasons out of booking forms and reminders unless your whole setup is covered.

How we chose

We checked every product’s own pricing and feature pages and its WordPress.org listing, then judged it on what matters most for this use:

  1. Several practitioners and, ideally, rooms or locations.
  2. Reminders by email and text.
  3. Self-service rescheduling.
  4. Data handling and where patient information is stored.
  5. Price for a practice with several staff.

1. Quill Booking: best overall for small practices

Quill Booking gives each practitioner a host calendar with their own hours, sends confirmation and reminder emails plus Twilio SMS on Pro, and lets patients reschedule from the email. Team events let a patient book the first available practitioner.

Frequently asked questions

Can patients book doctor appointments on a WordPress site?

Yes. Booking plugins such as Quill Booking, Amelia and LatePoint let patients choose a practitioner and time, and send confirmations and reminders.

Is online booking HIPAA compliant?

It can be part of a compliant setup, but no plugin is compliant on its own. Review hosting, email and SMS providers, sign Business Associate Agreements where needed, and keep clinical details out of booking forms and reminders.

How do clinics reduce no-shows?

Send more than one reminder, make rescheduling easy, shorten the time between booking and appointment, and keep a waiting list. See our guide to reducing no-shows.

Can I charge patients for missed appointments?

In the US, CMS allows charging Medicare patients for missed appointments only under a policy applied equally to all patients, billed to the patient, not Medicare. Check insurer contracts and local rules.
